You will need:

• DK yarn in two shades of yellow: A and B
• 4mm crochet hook
• scissors, stitch marker and yarn needle

Abbreviations used:

This pattern uses US terminology and UK terms will be in brackets.

ch - chain
SC (dc) - single crochet (UK double crochet)
hdc (htr) - half double crochet (UK half treble crochet)
dc (tr) - double crochet (UK treble crochet)
tr (dtr) - treble/triple crochet (UK double treble crochet)
dec - sc 2 together (UK dc 2 together)
ss - slip stitch
st - stitch

This pattern is no sew, to start the trumpet of the flower you need to stitch through gaps and pull the working yarn through the centre of the petals. This can be a bit fiddly to do, I have included photos to show how to do this, and I will have a video tutorial on YouTube and my social media accounts to demonstrate the technique, which I will link here. 

Method:

Petals

Using yarn A (the lighter of the two shades):

1. ch10 and ss into first ch to make a ring
2. ch1, sc(dc) 15 into ring and ss to 1st ch (15st)
3. ch1, 2sc (dc) into each st in round (30st)
4. *1 sc(dc) and 1 hdc(htr) into next st, 1 dc(tr) and 1 tr(dtr) into next st, 1 tr(dtr) and 1 dc(tr) into next st, 1 hdc(htr) and 1 sc(dc) into next st, ss into next st - repeat from * 5 times to complete the round - this creates the petal shapes. Fasten off

For the final round, essentially you are placing 2 stitches in each stitch of increasing then decreasing heights, with a slip stitch between each petal. 

Trumpet

Using yarn B, look for the small spaces around the centre of the petal piece - where you did the 2 sc(dc) into each stitch in round 3. Use your hook to pull a loop up through one of these spaces, and create a chain by pulling the yarn through from the centre of the ring. 

1. create a sc(dc) through each of the small holes around the centre of the petal piece and ss to first sc(dc) (15st)
2. pull working yarn up through centre of ring and sc(dc) in each st (15st) 
3. (2sc, dec) repeat to end
4. sc around
5. *sc(dc) dc(tr) sc(dc), repeat this all the way around to end. Fasten off.

Now your daffodil is complete! To make it into a flower, you can wrap some wire in green yarn and glue it to the back of the flower.

To make a leaf to go with it, try this pattern:

Green yarn DK

1. ch25, sc(dc) in each ch to end
2. ch1, sc(dc) to last st, 2sc(dc) in last st
3. ch1 and sc(dc) to end

Wire can be threated through or glued on to leaf to allow it to stand or be posed, and attached to the stem of the flower.
